Book Redesign
 2021

This project reimagines the design of George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion, a play centered on Professor Henry Higgins, a linguistics expert who takes on the challenge of transforming Eliza Doolittle, a rough-speaking flower seller, into a refined young lady through speech and etiquette training. As the story unfolds, Liza’s distinctive manner of speaking gradually evolves, reflecting her transformation and the play’s deeper themes of identity and self-perception.

Drawing from the black-and-white aesthetic of the original play, this redesign introduces a unique visual concept: as the curtains close, the book itself darkens, symbolizing shifts in tone and character development. A key focus of the redesign is to visually represent the progression of speech and grammar throughout the narrative—what begins as Liza’s harsh and unpolished dialect slowly fades, mirroring the changes in her character and the way she is perceived by those around her.
